Using Library OneSearch - Basic Search

Using the Basic Search

Enter your search info the Library OneSearch searchbox on the HTC library website.

Your search results will be displayed in two columns:

    • The left column displays Books & More, which includes all of the library's physical items (books, DVDs, audiobooks), as well as ebooks and streaming academic videos from our Films on Demand collection.
    • The right column displays Articles & More, which pulls journal, newspaper, and online encyclopedia articles from a majority of the library's databases.

Accessing Resources from OneSearch

Accessing Resources from the OneSearch Results List

Books & More Column:

    • To access ebooks and streaming videos, click the Click to Access this Online Resource link displayed shortly below the book or resource title. 
    • If a call number is displayed instead of a link, it is a physical item.  Visit the library to checkout the physical item.

Articles & More Column:

    • To access articles from this column, click the Get Full Text link displayed shortly below the article title.

Refining Your OneSearch Results

Refining or Narrowing your Search to Get More Specific Results

Search refinements for narrowing your search are only available if you switch to a one-column view (looking at only Books & More or only Articles & More).

To switch to a one-column view, click on either the Books & More heading or the Articles & More heading.  In the one-column view, you will see a list of search refinements on the right side of the results. 

For ARTICLES, the most popular search refinements are:

      • Limit to articles from scholarly journals.
      • Limit to articles with full text available
      • Exclude newspaper articles
      • Topic
      • Year of Publication (date range limit)

For BOOKS, The most popular search refinements for are:

      • Topic
      • Year of Publication (date range limit)
      • Format

checkmark clipartTo narrow your search to resources that are more specific to your topic, look for Topic links in the right column, or view the Beyond the Basics tab for more specialized search options.
