How to Search the Library

Library OneSearch searches nearly all of the library's 80+ research databases, along with the library's physical collection, with one search box.  You can find books, articles, streaming videos, and more.

The key to using OneSearch effectively is applying relevant limits to narrow or focus your search results

How to Search with Library OneSearch

Find Library OneSearch on the Library website: https://www.hennepintech.edu/library.  Enter your search words in the search box.

• EVERYTHING tab is orange = You are searching for books, articles, and more (including online and print)
• TEXTBOOKS tab is orange = You are searching for current textbooks available for short term rentals.

 

Focus Your Results

Use the "facets" or "limits" on the left side of your search results to narrow and focus your results.

Many different limits are available including:

• Material Type (book, article, video, etc.)
• Show Only (available only, peer-reviewed, etc.)
• Publication Date

To remove a limit after it has been applied - click the X next to the applied limit at the top of the column.

 

Viewing Results - Online Items

For items available online, click either the title of the item or the "Available Online" link to see the full-text article or book in a database.  The Available Online link is typically the most direct link to the item.

If you click the title of an online item, you may be prompted to select which database you would like to view the item in.

 

View Results - Physical Items

For physical items in the library (books, DVDs, etc.), note which library has the item (Brooklyn Park or Eden Prairie or both!) and write down the call number to find the item on the shelf.

**Note: If a book is listed as "BP Main Shelves and other locations," that mean Eden Prairie campus also has a copy.

 

Sign In with Your Star ID

Sign in with your Star ID and password to make sure you are seeing all options available to you in your results.  This is also where you can view what you have checked out, renew items, or see any fines you have accrued.
